Proud to be farmers

We are proud to call ourselves farmers, proud to farm merino wool, lamb and beef, and even proud to graze dairy cattle. Recently the NZ government have announced a zero carbon bill and methane is being targeted with a 10% reduction by 2030. I agree all industries need to get going to help get to the zero carbon goal, but I don’t understand why regenerative farming is never mentioned amongst the debate?
When methane from animals is calculated as a GHG contributor, do they factor in the carbon sequestering properties of correctly farming them? How holistic pastural grazing is more effective at sequestering carbon than trees? How it can be a tool to help build soil health, and in turn animal health, water quality and reverse climate change by putting carbon back into the soil where it belongs? Farming doesn’t have to be the problem, it can be the solution! I fear that the urban - rural divide has got too big, people have lost connection to the land and the food they eat. Lets all go meet a farmer, visit their farm, buy direct from & help support them to do the right thing. Farming is tough as hell, working round the clock to bring good food to your plates. If you ate today, thank a farmer.
